This is Don Blackman’s personal copy of the original, 1997 CD pressing of Weldon & the PoetsSpoken Melodies (Embrace the Positive), a compilation on Weldon Irvine’s Nodlew Music label pairing stalwarts of the ’90s New York spoken-word scene with soulful, jazzy compositions from Irvine and friends. In addition to musical contributions from Don Blackman on “Have No Fear” and “Prankster Gangster” (a reworking of Blackman’s “Haboglabotribin,’” originally recorded by Bernard Wright) and Irvine’s appearances as Master-Wel, the project features spots from a young Saul Williams and Rich Medina, as well as MuMs the Schemer and Jessica Care Moore
