New Order – Confusion (1983) – Original Studio Tape

New Order – Confusion (1983) – Original Studio Tape

This is the original studio tape from the groundbreaking 1983 recording of “Confusion,” a landmark collaboration between New Order and Arthur Baker that redefined the sound of post-punk and dance music. Recorded in New York at Baker’s Shakedown Sound studio, Confusion was the first time the Manchester band worked with an American producer.

Blending the raw edge of New Order’s synth-pop with the electro and hip-hop aesthetics of early-’80s NYC, Confusion became an underground club anthem and a transatlantic bridge between two music scenes. It also marked one of Factory Records’ earliest ventures into New York dance culture.

  • Highlights:
  • Original studio tape from the Confusion recording sessions.
  • The first New Order single produced in New York by Arthur Baker.
  • A key Factory Records collaboration blending UK post-punk and NYC electro.
  • Recorded at Shakedown Sound, 1983.
  • From the personal archive of Arthur Baker.

Part of the Arthur Baker Collection: This item is part of the Arthur Baker Collection — a once-in-a-lifetime auction in collaboration with legendary producer Arthur Baker. Sourced directly from his personal archive.
