1990s House Acetates (10” DJ Promos)

1990s House Acetates (10” DJ Promos)

This group of 10” acetates dates from the 1990s and consists of pre-release DJ test pressings made and used by Victor Simonelli.

During this period, acetates were commonly cut to enable DJs to play unreleased material in clubs before official vinyl release. Prior to widespread CD-R and digital distribution, pressing a one-off acetate was the primary method for testing tracks on a sound system outside of cassette playback. These discs were cut in small quantities, often as single reference copies.

The acetates include material associated with artists such as Jazz-N-Groove, Tommy Musto, Dave Lee (Joey Negro), projects within the Arthur Baker circle, and Mousse T., among others. At the time these acetates were cut, the tracks were unreleased; many were later formally issued.

All examples are 10” format and were played by Victor in club settings prior to commercial release.
